This is a particularly special batch of Pom Charms..made with Moyo Garnets, and capped in Fairmined gold, they're also each 20-30% larger than prior batches!
I started with five of the juiciest Tanzanian Garnets from the miner-to-market gemstone collaborator *Moyo Gems*. Through Moyo Gems’ commercial model, East African gemstone miners earn 95% of the export price of the gemstones they sell, compared to 10-30% of what they would earn outside of the program.
After faceting these five Moyo garnets to find the biggest, plumpest 'aril’ in each, I snuggly encased them in 14k *Fairmined* gold caps cast from wax I hand-carved to fit each individual stone perfectly.
Fairmined is an initiative whose label guarantees that the gold used is traceable, extracted with the best mining practices aimed at preserving the environment, and support the development of artisinal and small-scale mining communities. While it can cost on average 15-20% more than conventional gold, the additional price assures traceability, responsible mining, and fairer trade conditions.
